A Year in Pictures: 2018

Happy New Year! Here are some of my best (and worst) memories from 2018:

January

  1. Alan, Ryan, and I set a new record at the Countdown Games for most money stolen in least amount of time.

  2. We went back to the Countdown Games on my last night in Kentucky (and were annoyingly joined by a little girl who already knew all the clues for that room).

  3. There was a blizzard in Mankato!

  4. Taken while shoveling the snow off my car.

February

  1. I flew home for my mom’s birthday.

  2. And saw my dogs, who suck at being photogenic.

  3. I flew home and surprised Ryan for his white coat ceremony!

  4. I expanded my succulent collection even more.

March

  1. Mary and I went to South Dakota for Spring Break and saw Mt. Rushmore.

  2. And Badlands National Park.

  3. Then went to Minneapolis when we returned to MN.

  4. Ryan visited me for his Spring Break, and we went to the Minnesota Zoo.

April

  1. It snowed again at the beginning of the month.

  2. I went to Minneapolis for a weekend with some MFA friends.

  3. And there was another blizzard while we were there.

  4. Look at all that wonderful, end-of April snow.

May

  1. I came back to Kentucky!

  2. Mary, Alan, and I went to Yellowstone National Park.

  3. It was part of a grant I received from MSU to travel and write a novella.

  4. We also went to Grand Teton National Park while out there.

June

  1. Kari, Kayla, and I visited the Conrad-Caldwell House in Louisville to conduct research for my novella.

  2. Ryan and I started touring wedding venues (this is Waveland Estate).

  3. My mom, Alan, and I graciously accepted spots on a trip to Chautauqua, NY, where we listened to literary-themed lectures and partook in other various cultural activities (including a ballet, an orchestral performance, and a performance by Black Violin).

  4. Luna and Argos were sad I wouldn’t let them jump on me right after a bath.

July

  1. Ryan and I reached peak form on July 4th, looking like a mom and dad at a barbecue.

  2. We toured more wedding venues (and made our friends pose like they were getting married).

  3. And added the last minute tour of Arcadia Manor.

  4. I met Kari’s adorable puppy, Kindi, for the first time!

August

  1. We officially booked Historic Shelby Manor at Arcadia Farms as our wedding venue for July 2020!

  2. Ryan, Alan, and I took Daisy hiking in Red River Gorge.

  3. Kayla and I visited Kari in Marquette, MI.

  4. And went hiking at the Grand Canyon of Michigan.

September

  1. I made a unicorn cake for Kari and Kayla’s birthday.

  2. And visited the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.

  3. I pretended to be Bob Ross for a day.

  4. We took our little Bisous home!

October

  1. I totaled my car by hitting a deer at 70 mph.

  2. And flew home to get a new car and some kitten therapy.

  3. Ryan visited and we went to the Minnesota Zoo (again).

  4. My friend Liz and I presented at a writer’s conference in South Dakota.

November

  1. Some MFA friends and I went to Minneapolis to celebrate Ashley’s birthday.

  2. It snowed (again).

  3. I went home for Thanksgiving to see my loved ones, but mostly the kitten.

  4. And Kayla and I got stuck in a blizzard on the way back to MN.

December

  1. I discovered my love of embroidery.

  2. Kayla and I went to the Kiwanis Christmas Lights in Sibley Park.

  3. Ryan, his family, and I went to the Southern Lights at the Kentucky Horse Park for his birthday.

  4. Ryan and I went on a trip to Italy to ring in the new year!
